South Africa Coach Mickey Arthur Resigns

In a surprise move, Proteas coach Mickey Arthur has just resigned from his position. Former quick bowler Corrie van Zyl has been named as the team’s caretaker for the tour to India that begins next week.

South Africa only managed a draw in their recent home series  Test series against England. They lost both the preceding ODI series against the same team and the previous home Test series against Australia, but the coach’s resignation was not anticipated.

Instead it is claimed that Arthur quit after his relationship with captain Graeme Smith disintegrated beyond repair after Smith publicly criticised his coach for gambling with team selection during the recent Test series.
